The Range Safety Officer: More Than Just a Watchful Eye

Built on Safety: The Sanctum 1791 Standard and the Critical Role of Certified Range Safety Officers

At Sanctum 1791, we understand that firearms training is about more than marksmanship. It’s about discipline, confidence, and above all—safety. Behind every successful training session is a framework built by experienced professionals who ensure everything runs smoothly, responsibly, and securely.
That framework starts with one essential role: the Range Safety Officer (RSO).

The Range Safety Officer: More Than Just a Watchful Eye
A Range Safety Officer isn’t just someone who supervises. At Sanctum 1791, our RSOs are seasoned professionals—trained, certified, and tested—with the responsibility of maintaining safety protocols, overseeing live-fire exercises, and preventing incidents before they can even begin.
They are calm under pressure, alert to every detail, and proactive in upholding the highest standards of firearms handling. In other words: they’re the reason our training environment is one of the safest anywhere.
Certified, Experienced, and Proven in the Field
We don’t leave safety to chance—and not just anyone is qualified to be a RSO at Sanctum 1791. All of our RSOs are certified by the National Rifle Association (NRA), and they each bring extensive experience from previous military and law enforcement careers. Their professional backgrounds equip them with the practical judgment, tactical knowledge, and composure needed to manage any situation that may arise. This experience also ensures that you can train however you choose as long as its safe.
This isn’t just about passing a course—it’s about understanding real-world risk and managing it with precision.
Chief Range Safety Officer Martin Nozar: Leading from the Front

At the helm of our safety team is Martin Nozar, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with a decade of service in some of the most demanding environments in the world.
Martin served honorably in both Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), where his responsibilities included weapons handling, tactical operations, and security details. Following his military career, he transitioned into private protective operations, continuing to refine his expertise in firearms safety and instruction.
Now, as Sanctum 1791’s Chief Range Safety Officer, Martin applies his extensive experience to maintain the highest level of safety and discipline on our ranges. His leadership ensures that every training session is not only effective—but conducted with absolute professionalism.
The Power of a Safe Learning Environment
One of the most overlooked factors in firearms training is psychological safety. When students feel secure, they focus better, learn faster, and retain more. A well-managed range eliminates uncertainty and builds confidence.
At Sanctum 1791, we create that environment every single day.
Safety Is Not Optional—It’s the Foundation
We don’t believe in shortcuts when it comes to training—and we certainly don’t when it comes to safety. Whether you’re taking your first class or preparing for high-level defensive courses, you’ll be guided by instructors and RSOs who bring real-world experience, NRA certification, and an unwavering commitment to your safety.
Sanctum 1791 exists to equip, train, and empower those who are serious about their Second Amendment Rights. And it all starts with creating a safe, professional environment—led by those who’ve been there before. So, when you see the men and women in red shirts at Sanctum 1791, make sure to tell them thank you.
Because at Sanctum 1791, safety isn’t just a rule. It’s our culture.
