Victor Faries

Victor Faries was born and raised in North Carolina and served in the United States Marine Corps from 2015–2025 as an Infantry Scout Sniper and Combat Instructor, deploying globally in support of operational missions.

He is a graduate of several elite military programs including the USMC Scout Sniper Basic Course, Mountain Scout Sniper Course, Urban Sniper Course, Infantry Small Unit Leaders Course, and multiple advanced marksmanship schools.

After completing his service, Victor transitioned into the world of competitive shooting, participating across multiple disciplines and continuing to refine his skills at a professional level.

Victor now serves as Lead Range Safety Officer, Match Director, and Range Master at Sanctum 1791, where he applies his experience, discipline, and passion for excellence to training, event management, and range operations.

Karen Williams Burton

Karen Williams Burton

Every Sanctum member is part of our family. I love getting to know each person and ensuring they feel welcomed and valued. We're not just a club; we're a community.

Born and raised in Burgaw, NC, Karen Williams Burton has deep roots in the community and a rich professional background. With 32 years in the educational field, she has held roles ranging from teaching to Director of Curriculum and Director of Advancement. In 2021, Karen became the Executive Director of the Greater Topsail Area Chamber of Commerce, where she played a pivotal role in supporting the local business community. Her journey in real estate began in 2006, starting in residential before expanding into commercial real estate, where she has excelled ever since.

Karen brings her passion for people and community to Sanctum 1791. Known for her warm personality and dedication, she has already built strong relationships with our members and looks forward to welcoming many more into the Sanctum 1791 family.

When Karen’s not working, she’s usually spending time with her granddaughters, parents, and family. She also enjoys beach life and socializing with friends.

Ryan Gilley

Ryan Gilley

We are building more than a gun club – we're fostering a community where everyone feels at home and valued. I'm excited to bring my passion for service and community to this exceptional venture.

Ryan Gilley brings a wealth of experience and leadership to Sanctum 1791. An alumnus of the Virginia Military Institute with a degree in biology, Ryan has a diverse background that spans military service, law enforcement, and corporate management. He served as a sniper in the Army during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2015 and later joined the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.

Transitioning into entrepreneurship and corporate management, Ryan has found his place in Holly Ridge, where he enjoys family time at the beach with his wife and kids. Ryan is thrilled to embark on this new venture with Sanctum 1791, bringing his passion for service and community to the forefront.

Brian Gribben

Brian Gribben

Sanctum represents where Freedom, Patriotism, and Community come together.

With nearly 20 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Brian Gribben has honed his skills in various settings, from casual dining to fine dining, bars, and catering. Originally from Moore County, NC, Brian’s career began in the Village of Pinehurst and has since spanned numerous roles, including management positions in well-known establishments.

Brian has spent the last decade focusing on front-of-house operations, bringing a wealth of knowledge in service, bartending, and team management. His diverse background and dedication to excellence make him a valuable asset to the Sanctum 1791 team.

A Wilmington resident for the past 10 years, Brian is passionate about creating memorable experiences for members and fostering a welcoming community at Sanctum. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his pets and loved ones and has a deep appreciation for fine spirits and sports.

Marcello “Marc” Taranto

Marcello “Marc” Taranto

We strive to create an unparalleled experience for Sanctum members — ensuring that every detail is perfect, so you can focus on what you enjoy most.

Born and raised in New York, Marcello “Marc” Taranto has always been driven by a passion for excellence. He graduated from SUNY Oneonta with a major in Business Economics, where he was also an accomplished javelin athlete.

After college, Marc’s journey took him to Orvis Sandanona, where he honed his skills as a Trapper and developed a love for Sporting Clays. He is also an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer (RSO), bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role at Sanctum 1791.

Marc’s diverse background includes working on the Oncology team at Guardian Veterinary Specialists. Now residing in Holly Ridge, Marc enjoys spending time with his rescued cat, Oliver, whom he found as a stray kitten in the engine bay of his truck.

With a strong commitment to member satisfaction and a passion for shooting sports, Marc is dedicated to ensuring that Sanctum remains a place where members feel welcome, safe, and part of a community.

Marcee Finn

Marcee Finn

Born in Florida and raised in Wilmington since 8 years old, Marcee Finn has deep roots in North Carolina. After attending UNCW, she obtained her NC Real Estate License in 2015 and spent 10 years in property management before transitioning to her true passion: shooting sports, and instruction. Marcee holds multiple certifications, including Level 1 Tactical Hyve Certification of which she is the only female instructor, USCCA Instructor, Certified Ladies’ Defense Instructor, NRA Certified Chief Range Safety Officer (RSO), and NRA Instructor.

A dedicated competitor in USPSA and 2-Gun competitions, Marcee has taught over 500 students in everything from Concealed Carry to advanced range instruction. She has also shot at the 2025 IPSC World Handgun Shoot with Team USA, and hosted training sessions with Grand Master and World Champion Shooters, bringing top-tier expertise to the Sanctum 1791 community.

Now residing in the Greater Wilmington NC area, Marcee is known for her enthusiasm and dedication to shooting sports. Her favorite sport is USPSA, and she favors 9mm and 5.56 ammo. When she’s not on the range, Marcee enjoys spending time with her three pets — one dog and two cats — who keep her life full of energy and love.

James Van Sicklen

James Van Sicklen

We’re creating something special here—a place where great food, good people, and genuine connection come together.

Originally from the Southern Vermont–New Hampshire border, James Van Sicklen brings a lifetime of hands-on experience and creativity to Sanctum’s culinary program. A graduate of Nashua High School with honors and a Culinary Arts certification, James has honed his skills in kitchens across the country, specializing in Italian cuisine, Southern comfort food, and from-scratch breakfasts that let the ingredients speak for themselves.

Before joining Sanctum, James spent time in both the optics and robotics fields, balancing precision and artistry—qualities that now define his approach in the kitchen. Since moving to Holly Ridge with his family in 2024, he’s been hard at work crafting new flavors and experiences for members to look forward to.

Outside of work, James enjoys woodworking, 3D printing, and spending time with his wife and two children. He’s a lifelong Cowboys, Bruins, and Red Sox fan, known for his favorite saying: “My glass isn’t half full or empty—I’m halfway to the next beer. Want one?”

Izzy Sanford

Born and raised in Pinehurst, North Carolina, Izzy Sanford planted roots in Wilmington after earning her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. As a Membership Sales Associate at Sanctum 1791, Izzy combines her love for the outdoors with a strong commitment to building meaningful connections. She’s passionate about helping others discover the unique experiences Sanctum offers and is excited to grow and strengthen the Sanctum 1791 family.

When she’s not working, Izzy enjoys spending time with friends and family, paddleboarding, hunting for shark teeth, and enjoying live music around town.

Martin Nozar

Martin Nozar

Martin Nozar served in the United States Marine Corps from 2008 to 2017, gaining extensive experience in firearms training, weapons handling, and tactical operations during his deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). His precision and commitment to safety played a critical role in protecting personnel and assets during CENTCOM missions. Following his military service, Martin continued his work in protective operations, further refining his expertise in firearms safety, range operations, and training program development.

At Sanctum, Martin serves as the Certified Chief Range Safety Officer (RSO), ensuring a secure and effective environment for all members and guests. With his dedication to safety and professionalism, Martin upholds the highest standards for range operations, fostering confidence and security on every range.

Justin Carney

Justin Carney

Justin Carney is a Marine Corps veteran with extensive precision and advanced marksmanship expertise. As an Infantry Rifleman and Designated Marksman, Justin deployed to Afghanistan, participating in critical missions such as Operation Eastern Storm. His career highlights include completing advanced sniper training—Mountain, Urban, and Aerial Sniper Courses—and serving as Chief Scout for the 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines. With over 2,500 hours of instruction, Justin is a seasoned expert in high-angle, high-wind marksmanship at ranges up to 1,600 meters.

At Sanctum, Justin shares his expertise through Advanced Precision Rifle and Complimentary Rifle Safety courses, offering unparalleled instruction in long-range engagement techniques.

Adam Jones

Adam Jones

Adam Jones began his journey in the profession of arms at the age of six, learning to shoot under the guidance of his father, a deputy sheriff. In 1999, he joined the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman, serving with distinction. In 2005, Adam was selected to join the newly formed Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), where he led missions across North Africa, Afghanistan, and Iraq. Throughout his career, Adam completed eight deployments as a special operator. After retiring in 2019 following 20 years of service, Adam transitioned to entrepreneurship, leveraging the skills he developed during his military career to build a successful business.

At Sanctum, Adam specializes in small groups and 1:1 training for individuals beginning their shooting journey. He also leads complimentary safety classes, providing foundational skills and confidence to help students start on the right foot.

Daniel Tarantino

Daniel Tarantino

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends

Daniel Tarantino served 20 years in the Marine Corps, including 17 as a Marine Raider with MARSOC, gaining operational and combat experience across Afghanistan, Iraq, Africa, and South America. A seasoned instructor, he has trained elite units such as Navy SEALs, Army Special Forces, and international special operations teams. After retiring in 2024, Daniel transitioned to civilian instruction, focusing on active shooter response and combat casualty care.

At Sanctum, Daniel teaches advanced techniques, including CQB, low-light threat engagement, and vehicle counter-ambush, empowering students to protect life and liberty with skill and responsibility.

Tanner Wright

Tanner Wright

Tanner Wright is an active-duty United States Marine and a standout member of the elite Camp Lejeune Shooting Team. As a competitive shooter, Tanner travels across the country to compete at the highest levels and has earned both the Distinguished Rifleman and Distinguished Pistol Shot badges—an incredibly rare achievement in the Marine Corps.

Tanner is also a USPSA Grand Master in both Carry Optics and Production divisions, showcasing his elite-level proficiency and deep understanding of dynamic shooting sports. His blend of competitive success and military discipline sets him apart as both a shooter and instructor.

Dedicated to sharing his expertise, Tanner is passionate about providing high-quality, affordable firearms instruction—especially for fellow military members, veterans, and first responders. His coaching is approachable, mission-driven, and results-focused, tailored to help shooters at every level improve their confidence, precision, and performance.

Mark Damm

Mark Damm

“If you are trained and capable, you are not expected, but obligated to protect those who can’t protect themselves.

Mark decided to finally take a knee and retired from the United States Marine Corps in late 2024 after 20 years of active duty service.  He is not native to North Carolina, but has called it home since taking selection in 2009.  A graduate of class 3-10, Mark has deployed multiple times with Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC) as a Critical Skills Operator (CSO) in support of numerous, kinetic operations.

He has deployed in leadership positions ranging from Element Leader, Team Operations Chief, twice as a Team Chief, and as a Company Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEA).  Mark also spent time as a Battalion Training Detachment Staff Non-commissioned Officer in Charge (SNCOIC) and retired as the Regimental Operations Chief.  During his career, he was able to attend multiple advanced schools, courses, and training; making him a wealth of knowledge regarding firearms, shooting, and tactics.

As a founding member, Mark has been a familiar face on the ranges even before working here.  At Sanctum 1791, he is currently a Lead Range Safety Officer and Instructor specializing in 1-on-1 coaching for beginners, seasoned shooters, and professionals requiring advanced tactics.

Sean Ward

Sean Ward

Sean was born and raised in Missouri and served in the United States Marine Corps as a Radar Technician from 2020 – 2025. Throughout his military service, he developed a foundation in discipline and accountability that shapes his conduct.

Following his transition from active duty, Sean focused on refining and advancing his shooting skills, placing a strong emphasis on safety and improvement. His approach to instruction and mentorship is informed by his Christian faith, which reinforces a commitment to leadership, humility, and responsibility in all aspects of training.

Sean currently serves as a Lead Range Safety Officer and Instructor at Sanctum 1791, where he upholds the highest safety standards with all experience levels. He is dedicated to creating a professional and disciplined training environment that promotes confidence and competence.
